Anxiety

July 2025

My mind is constantly on overdrive,

picking apart the smallest of things.

It overthinks.

Relaxation feels like a chore

because she has me in a chokehold

and won’t let me breathe.

I try to silence the noise,

but she’s controlling,

She’s smothering.

She blocks the door

and tries to prevent me from making my own choice.

Autonomy becomes a dream deferred,

my mind has prepped for domination of my world.

She has taken over, and she must be stopped.

She’s crowned herself as dictator,

She forced her way in…

holding me hostage in a place

that I never asked to be.

Now I’m gearing up for the battle,

praying that I can win the war,

I’m determined to reclaim my peace.

To escape the maze of this mental prison,

and finally break free from the chains of captivity.

She finally introduced herself,

and her name is Anxiety.

But she is not welcomed here,

and she has no power over me.
