The sound of water
flowing down the stream
brings me peace.
I sit still
and allow it to take up space
inside of me.
It quiets the chaos
just enough
for me to fully think,
to separate my own voice
from everything fighting
to be heard.
Water does not force calm.
It simply keeps moving.
Maybe that is the lesson.
Like a river,
sometimes you have to allow
your thoughts to flow.
When left trapped inside,
they sit,
they brew,
they build pressure
until they spill into
everything else.
Stress needs an outlet..
somewhere to pour itself
before it pours out of you.
So I think of my thoughts
as a river:
moving through me,
not making a home of me,
eventually finding their way
to the ocean.
I do not have to hold
everything that passes through.
