She Only Grew

June 2025

People ignorantly speak on two-parent households,

as if broken homes with both parties present is a badge of honor to wear.

Healthy parents,

whether one or two,

is so much better.

Imagine a child whose home

is an everlasting battleground,

filled with so much strife.

Seeing mommy and daddy constantly

exhibiting outward turmoil

has consequences that linger

well throughout their life.

I can’t speak for you,

but I can speak on what I’ve been through.

I could have chosen to stay

for “the sake of the kid”

but me leaving?

Well,

that was a testament of my inner strength.

I refuse to repeat generational traumas.

I refuse to raise a child

showing her what a warped love looks like.

I choose to raise her up in

healthy love,

not in an endless fight.

In the end,

people questioned what made me flee,

but

while keeping her in mind

I chose what was best for me.

I’m raising a young girl

who will later be a woman,

and if she’s ever with the wrong man

she needs to know

that it’s ok to leave.

To spread her wings,

To go fly free,

To honor her own truth

Unapologetically.

So when I look at her,

and at the qualities she possesses,

I see a little girl whose life

holds many blessings.

A life so rich,

where love continues to blossom

like a garden during the spring.

She already knows leadership

but I pray she’s aware of

all the greatness she brings.

I mean,

I can’t speak for how she’ll be as an adult,

but right now,

she’s unafraid to be:

sensitive and loving,

yet fearless and free.

Unable to be tamed

and unafraid of the wild.

Through time she may change,

but it’s amazing to see

that she knows herself as a child.

She’s raised up to honor

her truest self in her youth,

and because the seeds were planted,

she bloomed,

she grew.

And she’ll only continue to grow

because from the beginning

she always knew.
